ILLUSTRATED GLOSSARY OF DESIGN VOCABULARY

TERM - 1




1. CREATIVITY: The ability to perceive the world in new ways, making, and connections.








2. SCALE: Size or extent.






3. CONTEXT: The circumstance that forms the setting for the statement, or idea and in terms of which it can be fully understood.




4. STAKEHOLDERS: A person, group, or organization that has an interest in a company and can affect or be affected by the business of the company.






5. STAKEHOLDER MAPPING: It is the visual process of laying out all the stakeholders of a product, project, or idea on one map.







6. TYPOGRAPHY: This is the art and technique of arranging type (letter and text) in a way that is legible, readable, and appealing when displayed.







7. EXPRESSIVE TYPOGRAPHY: Letters are not just carriers of meanings but have now become real physical shapes.






8. ASSUMPTIONS: Supposition believed to be the 'truth', without concrete proof. When someone says cupcakes, we assume this shape.








9. NEW POSSIBILITIES: Something which has not happened yet. Which is very new.







10. CREATIVE THINKING: Coming out with creative ideas logically.










11. SLICE AND DICE: Breaking down a task/problem into smaller tasks.









12. CROSS BREEDING: Combining two things/objects and creating a completely different item.








13. IDEA BOX: Listing down random ideas under a category and making different combinations.









14. SCAMPER: It's a thinking tool that helps in changing a design.







15. SUBSTITUTE: Object that has the same function as the object you want to substitute.







16. COMBINE: Adding another object to your object.







17. ADAPT: This can be useful in different settings.








18. MODIFY: Making changes in its features.










19. ELIMINATE: Taking out some part of the object. Here, removing the legs of the side table.









20. Circle Of Opportunity: Selecting 12 areas that we might want to design and rolling a dice to get 2 of them.












21. SIX THINKING HATS: It is a book written by Edward de Bono. It introduces us to new ways of thinking and taking decisions.














22. WHITE HAT: Focus on the available data.














23. RED/INTUITION HAT: Signifies feelings, hunches, and intuition.










24. GREEN/CREATIVE HAT: Focuses on creativity; the possibilities, alternatives, and new ideas.














25. BLACK HAT/DEVIL'S ADVOCATE: Look at a decision's potentially negative outcomes.


















26. YELLOW HAT: Look at opportunities and benefits. Opposite to black hat.
















27. BLUE/PROCESS CONTROL HAT: It deals with controlling the thinking process.












28. Perception: The individual way of seeing things.





 

TERM - 2




Timeline: A graphical representation of a period of time.













Association: a connection between two variables.









Consumer: who uses the product.

Customer/buyer: who buys the product but does not necessarily use it.






Subject: a person or thing that is being discussed, described, or dealt with.









Demography: description of people.









Self Identity: perception about oneself.











Social Identity: An individual's self-concept is derived from perceived belonging to a certain social group by adopting the acceptable values, norms & behaviors.









Etymology: Breaking down a word to understand its meaning.









Ergonomics: the study of human interaction with an object.










Usability: ability to use a product for why it was bought in the first place.










Utility: Various ways of using a product.
















Case study: an in-depth study on something.













Infographics: the visual representation of data.









Inferences: conclusion reached through research and evidence










Power Grip: grasping something using the palm.









Pinch Grip: holding something by make squeezing it between the fingers.










Contact Areas: area of the body where the object comes in contact.











Primary method: Collecting data directly from the source.









Secondary method: Collecting data from the sources that have taken data from the Primary source.
