LEARNER’S JOURNEY-Essence of Colour

Updated: Dec 1, 2020

COLOUR EXPLORATION

Different surfaces have different smoothness, in which steel is the smoothest so it couldn't hold water which is why color extraction on steel was difficult. I tried to apply 2 layers of paint on every swatch but it was disappearing with every layer I applied because of the water. On the other hand, the brick had a very rough surface which constantly absorbed water and it took me 3 layers to identify the yellow color.

OBSERVATION THROUGH VIDEOS

We were shown videos on how big athletes show their superiority through color play. Asafa Powell of Jamaica ordered custom Cheetah print and Jamaica flag colored runners to show his speed and superiority on the racetrack. There was a video about colors playing a major role in film making, Which reminded me of the day when I tried to create an animation in which I lacked this knowledge of color play. Different colors have different impacts on humans due to their varying range of tints and shades. The moviemakers keep these things in mind when they have to show multiple emotions.

APPROACHES OF INQUIRY

We made a mind map which was the best part of this project. It allowed me to question the work I did and also helped me explore the yellow color by digging deep into color psychology. We created swatches and applied them to the various surface to observe the behavior of color over them. It was hard at first but when I got a hang of it, it became a piece of cake for me. We also read about color psychology and saw videos on how color played an important role in branding/marketing. The movies taught us about how colors can affect our emotions. I surveyed to know how others thought of the color and it was fun.

STRUGGLES

I struggled a lot with the final responsive writing because I'm not used to writing so many paragraphs and also we had to paraphrase our work which was not easy for me. But talking to my peers helped me through every point of that submission.

ILLUSTRATED GLOSSARY

1. Context - the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood.

Here, we know that this is a doctor's clinic or a hospital because of the stethoscope.

2. Perspective- individual way of looking at something which varies with experience.

3. Perception- way of understanding something

4. Hue- a color or shade

5. Saturation- It refers to the intensity of the color

6. Value/tone- brightness

WAY OF LEARNING

I'm in love with this way of learning. It is entirely practical and we perform everything we are taught. Our tutors only guide us and give briefs and then we are supposed to do the projects on our own which helps us come out of that bubble of dependence. And everything about this is challenging which is a good thing.

FUTURE APPLICATIONS

After this project, my thoughts on the color's role in our life has changed completely. I never knew that it played a major role in film making and branding before this project. Emotions and thoughts can be influenced by a hue were a game-changer for me. This knowledge will help me in my projects with animation making and also in the application of colors on different materials.
